How to stand out when applying for a Job 2/2

The Interview

Keep your cool: Practice taking deep breaths and ensure having a good night’s sleep beforehand. Keep your hands to yourself and refrain from fidgeting.

Pay attention to your body language: Keep your back straight and muscles relaxed. Ask for permission when entering the room and don’t sit before you are asked to be seated. Practice speaking in front of a mirror and use voice modulation techniques.

Be confident: In an interview, the recruiter isn’t looking for someone who flinches at even a slightly difficult question. Do not venture through topics which might not be your strong suit. Keep your answers crisp and clear. If you do not know something, do NOT guess. Answer honestly that you aren’t well read on that particular matter and will surely look into it, (in case you do get a follow up interview, remember to look into it!)

Ask questions yourself:  As the interview is coming to a close, ask the interviewers some questions about the position and the company. A good question to ask is “What would a successful and hardworking person be doing ten years in this position?” This will reflect your dedication and tell them you are in for the long run. Thank them before letting yourself out.
