Resume of an HR Generalist compared to an HR Business Partner (HRBP)

One must draw a clear line between an HR Generalist and an HRBP. An HR Generalist runs the daily functions of an organisation whereas, an HRBP joins forces with one or more of the organisation’s managers. Their resumes should reflect the details consequently.

A BA/BSC in business administration or relevant field is a must for an HR Generalist. Whereas an HRBP requires a degree in HRM.

An HR Generalist should have a minimum one year of HRM experience. However, an HRBP has to have around four years of involvement in any HR role with management and supervisory experience.

The skills column of an HR Generalist must include critical thinking, organisational and conflict resolution skills and the HRBP must have excellent people management and communication skills.

An HR Generalist is responsible for framing new onboarding plans whereas, an HRBP aligns “Right man at the Right place”.

The pandemic is setting upgrades for the HR systems.Like any job it is an evolve or die situation.

It would be wise for HR Generalists and HRBP to expand with additional trainings in case a company needs to downsize and they want to be valuable assets.
